What's more fun than making a bird puppet is taking it upstairs, throwing it over the railing, and watching it "fly" down.
Okay, so here's the proof for those of you that think I'm being hard on myself. Look at the lumps. I've never seen such a bumpy cake. How embarrassing! Even the borders are terrible. And of course, the flowers that I really didn't want to use but was kind of forced by exhaustion and frustration to get over it and put them on there.
I tried this new fondant that's supposed to be the best. It was quite a bit more expensive than the wilton brand I've always used but I thought it would be worth it. It actually tastes a lot better but was so soft that every little bump shows through. Even on another cake that I made sure was frosted perfectly smooth, when I covered it with this fondant, it looked lumpy. I can't even explain it but I've learned that I'm sticking with the bad-tasting, cheaper, and better looking wilton brand.
Anyone interested in what else I learned from all this? I don't do custard filling! And I don't do more than one cake at a time. Even though I've managed more than one cake at a time before, I'm not doing it again until I'm out of this funk.
