More Indoor Fun

My mom gave us some cute, ready-to-make puppet crafts that we put together this morning. They were fun and easy enough that I didn't have to do it for them. I love the concentration.

What's more fun than making a bird puppet is taking it upstairs, throwing it over the railing, and watching it "fly" down.

Indoor Summer Fun!

Our house is on a hilly street and we have tons of tile and unfurnished space so what better place to practice roller-skating than inside. It was pretty scary at first but they've really gotten better.

Our baby girl!

Isn't that a cute arm?

Funny Honey

I've always liked artichokes. I eat them all the time...or at least when I can find them at a reasonable price. Everytime I eat one in front of Jeff, he asks for a leaf, just to remind himself that he doesn't like them. Well last night it was the same thing only this time he liked it. He said it wasn't that bad and asked for another leaf and another and another. Finally I got to the heart and he totally liked it. You know it's love when I share half an artichoke heart with someone. It's the best part. He said it was just the artichoke that tasted better, but to me it tasted like all the others I've made. So I think he's tried it enough times and happened to be hungry enough that it actually tasted good to him. What's weirder is that I was dipping it in mayonnaise and he hates mayonnaise. But he liked it with the artichoke. Why am I blogging this? I just thought it was funny.

last day of school

Last Thursday was Tyler's last day of first grade. I can't believe my baby is a big 2nd grader now. This is his teacher, Mrs. Pearson. She was great and so happy to have him in her class.

I made her this mini-cake because I couldn't really think of anything else to get her. And although the apple thing is a little cheesey, I couldn't resist and she loved it.

IT'S A...

GIRL!!!!!! I can't believe I'm having a girl. I went in thinking "okay, I'm the proud mom of boys, and now I'll have three cute boys." How great would that be right? Then the technician said "it's a girl" and I grabbed her arm and said "SHUT UP! Are you serious?" I just couldn't believe it so I made sure she was absolutely positive. She was. I'm still in shock. I just can't imagine having a girl. And she's totally healthy and looking great. She was moving all over the place, too. SHE! How weird...exciting weird.

1.5 days!

Just so everyone knows (or for the few people who read my dumb private blog) we're going for an ultrasound on Monday and should find out the sex of the baby. I'll try to post the results that night. Pray for the baby to not be shy so we can see all his/her junk! For the record, I don't care what it is, I'm just excited that we're having another baby. I can't imagine having a girl but I can't imagine having three boys, either. So we'll just have to wait and see. Yay, I'm so excited!

So remember the ugly flowers? Well, I don't know what's up with me lately but everything I make now sucks! I had the worst cake day ever and was so tired of one disaster after another that I finally gave up and used the dumb purple flowers. I'm not even posting it because it's the ugliest cake I've ever made. If I had time, I would have started all over but I just can't do it. I'm just now done doing a quick cleaning of my kitchen after having been baking and decorating in it ALL day. And by all day, I mean from 5:45 this morning to right now. I hate cakes! The worst thing is, I feel like none of it was even worth it because all the cakes I did today SUCK! Okay, I'm really frustrated right now and tomorrow will be better and then I'll feel dumb for ranting (and actually crying) over cakes.

Okay, so here's the proof for those of you that think I'm being hard on myself. Look at the lumps. I've never seen such a bumpy cake. How embarrassing! Even the borders are terrible. And of course, the flowers that I really didn't want to use but was kind of forced by exhaustion and frustration to get over it and put them on there.

I tried this new fondant that's supposed to be the best. It was quite a bit more expensive than the wilton brand I've always used but I thought it would be worth it. It actually tastes a lot better but was so soft that every little bump shows through. Even on another cake that I made sure was frosted perfectly smooth, when I covered it with this fondant, it looked lumpy. I can't even explain it but I've learned that I'm sticking with the bad-tasting, cheaper, and better looking wilton brand.

Anyone interested in what else I learned from all this? I don't do custard filling! And I don't do more than one cake at a time. Even though I've managed more than one cake at a time before, I'm not doing it again until I'm out of this funk.

Natalie May

Here's my new little niece, Natalie. She was born Monday, June 8 at 10:39 AM. She weighed 4lbs 4oz and was 17 inches long. Her due date wasn't until July 28 so she's staying in the hospital for a while. It's a little hard to tell how tiny she really is, but she's super teeny. I think she's so sweet and I can't wait until she's ready to come home.

I wanted to post this picture because I worked so hard on these flowers. I made a lot but these were the best out of the bunch. I'm not happy with them at all. They don't look anything like they're supposed to. Very frustrating. I guess I'll try again tomorrow or I'll have to settle for another flower. Bummer. You'll find out what happens when I post the cake on my other blog.

the beach

Back in February, Jeff's brother and his family came to visit and they went to the beach. I think Jaden and I were sick so we stayed home but Jeff and Tyler went with them. This was Tyler's first time and I'm really happy with the great pictures Jeff got.
